Spirometry Training for our Mozambique Team

ERASE-Tb proudly confirms that they have a robust and highly expert spirometry team having recently completed more classroom and field training earlier this month (August 2021).

Held in Maputo, at the Instituto Nacional de Saúde (INS) this course, the Certificate of Competence in Foundational Spirometry facilitated by Lindsay Zurba, is becoming integral to any research projects that include spirometry testing.

The Pan African Thoracic Society (PATS) Certificate of Competence in Foundational Spirometry is an intensive one-week short course covering the preparation for spirometry, conducting the procedure, evaluating and interpreting the result. The course consists of pre-reading followed by face to face learning covering the practical and theory aspects of spirometry. To complete the training the students undertake a theoretical assessment, a practical assessment and then complete a workplace portfolio of evidence proving competence in their own workplace.

In accordance with Mozambique's current COVID-19 regulations, our team consisted

of nine selected participants to undertake the Pan African Society (PATS) Certificate of Competence in Spirometry Training. The field work was facilitated by the Centro de Investigação e Treino em Saúde da Polana Caniço (CISPOC) team in Maputo. We spent time in the classroom between the 2nd and 6th August followed by mentorship in the field on the 9th and 10th of August.

Well done to all our team and thank you, Lindsay!
